Terracotta

I was a bit naughty today, and ended up buying another new dress! I say naughty – it wasn’t exactly an expense that’ll break the bank, and for £13 (Primark – I REALLY need to stop shopping there…) I know its something I’ll definitely get my wear out of. I also bought it to replace a dress I’ve had for a couple of years now, which is a slightly tackier shade of orange, and which has faded over time. May it rest in peace!

The colour was what first caught my attention, I have a jumper in a similar shade of rusty/burnt orange and always get compliments on it, so I couldn’t resist this lovely, slouchy dress when it caught my eye! I’m a huge fan of rich shades and fell in love with the terracotta tone from the first glimpse I got. In the past I’ve been a bit afraid of looser silhouettes, worrying that they might make me look short and stumpy. Lately though, and moreso in the summer months, I’ve been really eager to try out new slouchier fits, and am really enjoying mixing up my style a little bit! They are also great in terms of comfort and for those inevitable ‘fat’ days we all enjoy so much… I’m pretty sure this will become one of my fail-safe outfits for the summer, and am looking forward to trying it both belted and loosely. I think it would look great with some dark grey knee high socks and some little patent loafers – neither of which I currently own, but hey, we’ll see!

The emerald jumper pictured was my bargain of the month, checking out at just £1! Crazy huh? I spotted it in the men’s section, and by some twist of fate I ended up bagging myself a nice little bargain! I also picked up a little dusky pink t-shirt for my first crafty tutorial, which I’m hoping will be posted tomorrow, so watch this space : ) I’m so excited to have some time off so I can be a bit more crafty and creative, I haven’t been to town on that sort of thing since I left school. How exciting!

Lately I’ve been having problems with chapped lips (and I panic if I don’t have a chapstick on me! Lo-ser.) so I’ve got a bit of a thing for these amazing-tasting Lip Smacker lip balms. I’m sure there are better balms out there but these taste SO good! Seriously, you need to try one… (£1.50 from Primark) On the other hand, if anyone can recommend me a good lip balm that will help soothe and heal my poor sore lips, please let me know, I will be eternally grateful! Tesco air-con and the ‘great British weather’ hasn’t done me any favours! Booo.

Peace out! x

P.S Come and say hi on Twitter if you haven’t already, I’m really enjoying discovering more of your wonderful blogs and whatnot!

Leafy Greens

This dress has become one of my wardrobe staples since I bought it a few weeks back – the colour is gorgeous and I’ve found it easy to convert it from a daytime dress to a going out one, so it was well worth the meager £15 (Primark) I paid for it… you know I’m a sucker for a bargain! The little gold buttons reminded me of some pieces I’ve been seeing them on from Mulberry lately – always an extra added appeal to me to me when something looks a bit Mulberry-esque!

One of the other things I really enjoy looking at besides people’s outfits and adventures on blogs is their food! I’m not a huge foodie myself, but seeing some tasty dishes photographed nicely does get my appetite sparked up and also inspires me to ditch those horrible microwave meals in favour of something a little bit more nutritious! When you’re a student, living and socializing with other students, it can be easy to think that everyone is eating the same junk you are… so I guess I’ve been proven wrong!

Being healthy is something that’s really important to me, but that doesn’t mean I’m all that good at following it through when it comes to food! That’s why I’ve decided to seize the day and make something which will actually do me some good, and it was actually a really nice change from my usual favourites – pasta, baked potato with beans and cheese etc – and isn’t it amazing how good food looks so much nicer too? Yummmm.

I’m a vegetarian, and often end up feeling quite run down so I really want to try out some new healthy dishes, so if anyone has any recommendations, that would be amazing! It feels so good to finally have some time off without being back at my old supermarket job, which means for the first time in ages I feel like I can get a bit creative and learn some new recipes etc – summer is so useful : )

Thanks to all of you who have come back and visited again, I know I’m a bit of an inconsistent blogger, but now I’m 2/3 of my way through uni I’m really enjoying being back!

P.S If anyone would like to see a step by step little guide on how to make up a Salmon lunch, drop a comment, I’ve been wanting to have a go at one for a while!

I wish I was a Mermaid…

I’ve always maintained that if I could come back as anything in my next life, I would be a mermaid! Ever since my days obsessing over ‘The Little Mermaid’ and wishing I lived a magical life under the sea, I have always been attracted to any clothing which is even just a little bit mermaid-y, which is really what drew me to this watercolour print dress. I think it looks a bit like a tropical fish’s tail!

It’s actually meant to be a poolside dress that you put on over a bikini when you’re on holiday, but I’ve never really been one to take notice of anythings’ actual purpose clotheswise and otherwise, so I’ve been enjoying wearing it round the house and I feel the gorgeous colours help lift my mood and make me feel like I should be going out to run in slow motion through a field full of pretty flowers, even if really, I’m just going to be doing not much in my room! Also, being a country girl, I’ll take any chance I can get to go out in the sun in a pretty dress – which is how I hope to be spending the next few months now that uni’s over for the year… where did time go??

In the past I’ve really been taken by looks made up from a neutral colour palette, and have often tried to emulate this myself, but over time I’ve come to realise that my natural style instincts mean I’m magnetised to colour, so this dress makes me really happy! I can’t wait to have more excuses to wear it when I go on holiday somewhere hot at the end of August : )

What are your plans this summer?

Summer Fairycakes!

(I’m possibly the only person ever who decorates cakes in the summer that end up looking like Halloween pumpkins?)

Having finaaaally figured out why I’ve been broke all year (it can be really demoralising being able to go anywhere or do anything, which in part I feel is why I haven’t been as into blogging as before!) I’m about to come into a nice bulk of money from student finance (fingers crossed!) and am hoping to finally get the 50mm lens I’ve been trying to get for ages : ) which means I’m a happy bunny – and my blog will benefit because I might finally be a bit happier with my photographs! Yay! Its hard competing with some of you out there when I’m a perfectionist by nature, and when my camera isn’t giving me the results I really hope for! Now I have the summer pretty much free, I am going to dedicate a bit more time to blogging and enjoying fashion again!

Anyway, because you’re probably wondering why I ended up cracking and doing the cliche blogger activity that is baking cakes, a nice lady up the road from my house was having a bit of a clear out yesterday, and ended up donating lots of nice furniture and foody bits to me and my housemate! Included in the ingredients were lots of cakey bits and bobs so of course, me and Sian took the opportunity to bake us some nice little fairycakes : ) we had to think of people to give them to because we ended up with so many! 40 in total = 20 each = diabetes heaven… good stuff eh? So potentially we could become the most popular household down our street! Haha.

They may not be as amazingly presented or delicious as the cakes and other creations Helen bakes, but who could say no to a little bit of sugar, eh? I’d be lying if I said I was a good cook or even that I enjoy making food for myself (I’m a vegetarian, and a fussy one at that! So finding something I like is usually a trauma for me and anyone involved!) but making cakes with a friend is really fun so maybe there is some kind of ‘chef’ in me yet!

First fairycakes, next, THE WORLD! Well, a big cake perhaps? Watch this space… haha.
